Pets are now allowed in Sydney apartments

Mij Gibson Oct 13, 2020

The NSW Court of Appeal overturned the right of apartment blocks to pass bylaws that prohibit animals. So pets are now allowed in Sydney apartments.

This follows a four and a half year court case by a dog lover Jo Cooper to be allowed to keep her schnauzer Angus in the Horizon building in Darlinghurst.

The court also ruled that the 43-storey Horizon should be liable for the costs of all the hearings, which could amount to as much as $500,000 in total for the owners.

The unanimous verdict of all three sitting judges means that no blanket ban on pets will be permitted in any building anywhere in the state of NSW.
